A 27-year-old man who police say stole a $4,500 guitar in December was caught this week and the guitar recovered from overseas.
Christopher Sewell, of Calhoun, was charged with theft after detectives traced the instrument back to him, said Police Chief Garry Moss in a news release.
In December, police received a complaint that a Tom Anderson guitar had been stolen from a vehicle, Moss said. The guitar was distinct in design and had a serial number.
Detectives traced the sale from Calhoun to Duluth, Ga., then located the guitar in South Korea, Moss said. With help from members of the Korean community in Gwinnett County, detectives were able to retrieve the guitar.
The owner has been given his guitar back, Moss said.
