A Bradley County man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Monday in the death of his wife, according to a news release.

David Keith Daugherty, 42, was arrested and charged with the death of his wife Elizabeth Annette Carney, after she was reported missing to the Bradley County Sheriff's Office on July 12, 2011. Her body was found the same day.

Bob Gault, spokesman for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office, said deputies were sent to the home on a missing person's call.

"Before they were able to arrive on scene take a missing persons report, deputies received a call from the family saying her body had been found," Gault said.

An autopsy found Carney died of strangulation, the news release said.

Daugherty has been sentenced to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole in 51 years.
