Calhoun man charged with child molestation

Calhoun, Ga., police have arrested a local man and charged him with one count of child molestation, according to a news release.

Officers were dispatched today to Gordon County Hospital in reference to a sexual assault, police Chief Garry Moss said in the release. Officers were told by the complainant that Stephen Wayne Smith, 40, had made statements that he had engaged in a sexual act with a minor.

In an interview detectives obtained sufficient evidence to issue a warrant for Smith’s arrest, the chief said.

Smith was taken to the Gordon County Jail.
