Mayoral recall oral arguments set

Thursday, August 16, 2012

The next major legal event in the ongoing effort to recall Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield will be held Aug. 29.

The Tennessee Court of Appeals in Knoxville scheduled oral arguments for later this month, Election Commission Attorney Chris Clem said Thursday morning.

Local activist Jim Folkner is representing Citizens to Recall Mayor Littlefield, the Chattanooga Tea Party and Chattanooga Organized for Action in the groups' appeal of a circuit court decision to halt a recall election set by the Election Commission in late 2011.

Election Commissioner Jerry Summers made a motion that the commission not spend any more money on the litigation - even to send Clem to Knoxville. That motion, though seconded, failed to gain a majority of votes.
