Preps Preview: Scottsboro Wildcats

Friday, August 17, 2012

RECENT HISTORYAfter beating Arab in the second game of the season, the Wildcats suffered back-to-back frustrating three-point losses to region opponents, turning what was a promising season into a disappointment. Scottsboro never recovered and missed the playoffs for the third straight season.SCHEDULEAug. 31 at BuckhornSept. 7 Arab*Sept. 14 at Southside*Sept. 21 Boaz*Sept. 28 at North JacksonOct. 5 at Etowah*Oct. 12 Brewer*Oct.19 at Columbia*Oct. 26 Fort Payne*Nov. 2 Madison County* Region 7-5A game

SCOTTSBORO WILDCATS

Coach: Swane Morris (3-17 in two seasons here, 73-54 overall)

Stadium: Trammell Stadium

Address: 25053 Lee Highway, Scottsboro, AL 35769

THREE STRENGTHS

1) Offensive line. Three of the five starters returning are seniors.

2) Quarterback. Dual-threat senior Trey Lewis returns for his second season as the starter.

3) Secondary. All four starters return, led by seniors Madison Estes at free safety and Darrell Hannigan at cornerback.

THREE CONCERNS

1) Defensive line. While there is potential there, coaches are unclear on the rotation of who will start and who can be capable backups.

2) Young linebackers. Sophomores Donye Richardson and Jordan Whitehead have talent but are limited in experience.

3) Kicker. Running back Colin Warren likely will handle the place-kicking duties for the first time.

THREE QUESTIONS WITH DARRELL HANNIGAN

(Senior receiver/cornerback)

Q: You moved here from California when you were 4. How long before you had to choose between being an Alabama or Auburn fan?

A: Right away. Whenever somebody asks "Auburn or Alabama?" you know what they mean. It's Auburn for me.

Q: What's the toughest part about being a senior on a rebuilding team?

A: Getting everybody to believe. The younger guys and the whole team have to realize how much hard work goes into winning.

Q: What's your favorite part of Friday nights?

A: The atmosphere when we come out on the field. Just hearing the fans and all the noise.
