AJ McCarron completed 12 of 23 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns Saturday afternoon during Alabama's second preseason scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The scrimmage consisted of 140 plays and had to be halted for 30 minutes due to lightning before it was resumed. Freshman tailback T.J. Yeldon led all rushers with 16 carries for 60 yards and had scoring runs of 29 and 2 yards.

"I thought AJ handled himself well today and did a good job of taking care of the ball," coach Nick Saban said. "T.J. played very well as a runner. Kevin Norwood also made some great plays and some big catches."

Starting tailback Eddie Lacy sprained his ankle and knee, but Saban said it was not serious.

Norwood had three catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns, while Marvin Shinn had two receptions for 85 yards and a score.

Linebacker C.J. Mosley led the defense with six tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack, and he returned an interception 34 yards for a score. Linebacker Nico Johnson and safety Vinnie Sunseri were credited with five tackles each, while defensive end Damion Square and linebacker Xzavier Dickson each had four tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.

"I was really pleased with the way the ones played in the scrimmage," Saban said. "From there on, we have a very young team and have a lot of work to do to try to improve some of these guys."

The Crimson Tide will take today and Monday off and return to practice Tuesday.
