The homeowner, Imogene Jones, called 911 to report the fire at 10800 Jenkins Circle in the Sequoyah area, the release stated. The Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department arrived first, and the Mowbray VFD backed it up.

The release said Jones' grandson, Jonas Jones, 26, and a friend, Charlie Daniels, were trying to extinguish the fire in a couch. Jonas Jones had second-degree burns. Daniels was burned slightly but not taken to the hospital.

Police warn of scammers

The Dalton, Ga., Police Department is warning of scammers operating as a gutter-cleaning service.

According to the police news release, two men driving a white Ford F-250 and representing themselves as "Taylor Roofing" have been contacting elderly women offering gutter cleaning services. Once the work is done, the men demand about three times the agreed-upon price, the release stated.

One man was arrested Thursday. James William Taylor is in the Whitfield County Jail on charges of theft by deception, and is facing similar charges in Hamilton County, the release states.

Another man is still at large and soliciting business, the release states.

Anyone who has received such a solicitation or who has had home repairs by "Taylor Roofing" is asked to call Detective James Goines with the Dalton Police Department at 706-278-9085, ext. 115.
