Sunday was a truly mixed bag for three former Baylor School golf stars in professional tournaments.
While PGA Tour rookie Harris English's weekend got extended with the suspension of the fourth round of the Wyndham Championship at Greensboro, N.C., Luke List tied for second with a 67 in the Midwest Classic at Overland Park, Kan., and regained the Web.com Tour's money lead for the year.
In the women's second-tier Symetra Tour, Baylor alumna Brooke Pancake of Chattanooga closed with a 74 and tied for sixth at 212 in the three-round Eagle Classic in Richmond (Va.) Country Club after beginning the day in a four-way tie for first. Paola Moreno won with a 207.
At Greensboro, Sergio Garcia will be trying again today for his first PGA Tour victory in four years. He was at 15 under and one shot in relation to par ahead of three challengers when play was suspended Sunday because of heavy rains, with English in a four-way tie for fifth at 12 under.
Tim Clark, Jason Dufner and Bud Cauley were 14 under through varying stages of their rounds, and 38 players — half the field — were still on the course when play was stopped.
After waiting roughly 2 hours, 20 minutes, officials decided to bring them back to Sedgefield Country Club at 9 this morning to crown a champion and figure out who qualifies for the FedEx Cup playoffs and who doesn't. It will be the first Monday finish in Greensboro since 1983.
In Kansas, Shawn Stefani had a 7-under 64 Sunday to win by two for his first Web.com title. The 30-year-old former Lamar player finished at 17-under 267 on the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate. He earned $99,000 to jump from 54th to 12th on the money list with $166,715. The final top 25 on the money list will earn 2013 PGA Tour cards.
List, who shared second with Russell Henley, earned $48,400 with his 269 to take the money lead with $309,196.
