John Deffenbaugh defeated Alan Painter in the Republican run-off for the Georgia House of Representatives District 1 seat.
Deffenbaugh, a former Dade County commissioner had 1,876 votes, or 51 percent, which put him ahead of Painter, of Walker County, who netted 1,774 votes, or 49 percent according to the unofficial tally.
The newly drawn District 1 includes all of Dade County and a western portion of Walker County.

Dade County voters picked Ray Cross over incumbent Patrick Cannon for the GOP ballot slot in November, after polls closed at all seven of the county’s precincts.
Cross will face Democrat and former longtime sheriff Philip Street in November.
Cross defeated Cannon 55.7 percent to 44.3 percent, results show.
In other Republican runoffs, Kathy Page beat Carolyn B. Layne in the race for superior court clerk, and Kerri Bray Carter defeated David W. Duvall Jr. for the nonpartisan race for judge of probate court. There are no candidates in the superior court clerk race for November.
In school board runoffs, John L. Warren beat incumbent Ronnie Page for the District 3 GOP slot and incumbent David Powell beat challenger Careyee Bell for the District 5 Republican slot. There were no Democratic candidates for either post for November.

Major Gary Sisk has defeated opponent Larry Black in the Catoosa County Sheriff’s runoff race.
Sisk, the sheriff's office chief deputy, beat Black, a former Lookout Mountain drug task force commander, by nine percent of the votes.

Challenger Mark Schrader is beating incumbent Sheriff John Everett by 70 percent of the votes.
All precincts have been counted and authorities are only waiting on the absentee ballots.
