Two Catoosa County school buses were found burned near a baseball park in Ringgold, Ga., on Sunday morning.

The buses were found in a parking lot near the Jack Mattox Baseball Park, according to Marisa Brower, Catoosa County Board of Education spokeswoman. Fort Oglethorpe Fire Department spokesman Doug Flurry also confirmed two burned buses had been found, but said he had not seen a report and did not know any details.

Brower said it was likely that the school buses were part of the active fleet for the Catoosa County school system.

"The superintendent called me this morning and told me what had happened," she said Sunday. "I am assuming that they are school buses that are on active duty."

School hasn't begun for the year at Catoosa County schools and the buses were not being used at the present time, according to Brower.

Brower also offered an explanation about why the buses were in the parking lot. There is not enough room at the bus garage to house all the buses, she said, and many drivers choose to park the buses at their homes or other locations away from the schools.

Brower said the fire department is investigating the incident.
