The Chattanooga Lookouts are on the brink of a second consecutive trip to the Southern League playoffs after dumping Jackson 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at AT&T Field.

Chattanooga improved to 38-27 and established a four-game lead over the second-place Generals (34-31) with five games remaining in the regular season. The Lookouts will look to clinch the North Division second-half title during their final five-game series at Birmingham.

The Lookouts wasted no time in taking control Tuesday, as C.J. Retherford doubled to right field in the first inning to score Luis Nunez, J.T. Wise and Blake Smith. Nunez had started the rally with a two-out single to left.

Nunez made it 4-0 when he opened the third inning with a home run to left.

That was more than enough support for Lookouts starting pitcher Andres Santiago (1-1), who allowed three hits and one run in seven innings. Santiago had seven strikeouts.

Tuesday's announced crowd of 1,618 was among the lowest of the season.
