The Tennessee Golf Association announced Thursday that University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Steven Fox from Hendersonville was the state amateur player of the year for 2012, and Jean Roise from Crossville was the women's senior amateur player of the year. Jackson's Danny Green was the men's top senior amateur, and Spring Hill's Lauren Stratton was the women's player of the year. Fox reached the semifinals of the Tennessee Match Play Championship and the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship before winning the 112th U.S. Amateur Championship in Colorado. Roise qualified for the championship flight of the Tennessee Women's Amateur and won the state Women's Four-Ball and Senior Amateur championships.

• DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Former Baylor School star Brooke Pancake is three rounds of solid golf away from playing on the LPGA Tour. Pancake is tied for 24th at 1-over-par 217 after three rounds of LPGA Tour Qualifying School on the two LPGA International courses. The low 40 scorers and ties earn LPGA Tour membership for next season. She has shot rounds of 70, 72, and 75 in her first three days. Austin Ernst of Seneca, S.C., a past winner of the annual Ringgold AJGA tournament at WindStone, is tied for 18th at 215.

• LaQUINTA, Calif. -- Former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golfers Jonathan Hodge and Stephan Jaeger have struggled during their first three rounds of PGA Tour Qualifying School at the PGA West courses. The low 25 scorers and ties after six rounds will earn PGA Tour status next season. Hodge, who lives in Jasper, is tied for 98th at 3-under 213. Jaeger, who prepped at Baylor School, is in 168th place at 9-over 225. Meen Whee Kim leads at 18 under by one stroke over Robert Karlsson.

Soccer

• For the first time in five years, the NAIA will have a new women's soccer champion. Four-time defending champion Lee University, the top seed, tied 12th seed Olivet Nazarene 1-1 but fell 4-1 on penalty kicks in Friday's first semifinal at Orange Beach, Ala. Lee, ending its final season in the NAIA with a 20-1-2 record, outshot the Illinois team 21-11 and had a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks. Olivet (19-3-1) jumped ahead nine minutes into the match when Kelsey Warp got a long cross just under keeper Leah Wilson and Jessica Higer poked the ball into the net. Ashley Aragona equalized at 68:58 with a chip over Olivet keeper Wendy Espejel, who made three saves in the PKs shootout. "Today was a tough day, but it has been an amazing journey to take with this team," Lee coach Matt Yelton said. "This is a very special group of people who will always be very important to me, and I feel as proud of them today as I have been at any point in my coaching career." His program is leaving the NAIA with a 23-3-3 postseason record.

Volleyball

• Lee also exited the NAIA volleyball tournament Friday at Sioux City, Iowa. In the first round of single-elimination play, the ninth-seeded Lady Flames lost 15-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20 to eighth seed Hastings. Kendra Schwein had 21 kills and 10 digs for Hastings (30-6). Marija Zelenovic had 17 kills and two block solos and Irene Ojukwu and Nicole Sumida added 14 and 12 kills for Lee (30-11), while Camil Martinez had 41 assists and Libby Peigen and Ojukwu had 13 and 10 digs.

SOFTBALL

• Four softball players for GHSA Class AAAA champion Northwest Whitfield and coach Jason Brooker, were named to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association all-state first team. Senior pitcher Emily Boyd, who officially signed scholarship papers with Ole Miss recently, was named the AAAA pitcher of the year, while catcher Bayli Cruse, outfielder Colbie Thomas and shortstop Ashley Conner also made the first team. Outfielders Hannah Godfrey and Macy Weeks were second-team picks. Heritage infielder Savannah Goldsmith and pitcher Lauren Lawson were named to the first team, while catcher Kristin West, infielder Jesslyn Stockard and outfielder Olivia Tamewitz were second-team selections and freshman Taylor Moran received honorable mention. Dalton pitcher/infielder Allie Blackwood was voted to the second team.

Running

• Sewanee's Jeff Heitzenrater was voted the 2012 Southern Athletic Association women's cross country coach of the year. He joins Shawna Laurendine in volleyball as Sewanee honorees for coach of the year in the SAA's first season of competition. Heitzenrater's women's team finished second in the league meet with Ansley McDurmon, Cara Martin, Amy Lee and Willow Smith as all-conference runners.
