Lakeview band director resigns over texts

A North Georgia band director has resigned after a female student accused him of sending her inappropriate texts in late November, according to Catoosa County Public Schools.

Thomas Blevins, the director of bands at Lakeview Middle School in Rossville was suspended Nov. 27 due to the allegations, Marissa Brower, communications specialist at Catoosa County Public Schools said in an email.

“A hearing was set to determine whether the employee would be terminated,” she wrote in the email. “Prior to the hearing, the employee resigned.”

She did not release the any details about the “inappropriate communication.”

Blevins has served as the band director for six years, working with about 225 students, according to Lakeview’s website.

In 2010, he received a national award designated for young band directors, the American School Band Director’s Association’s Outstanding Potential Award.

Blevins could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.
