Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency staff today recommended deferring a decision on a zoning change sought for a proposed $100 million Hixson apartment and commercial project.
The staff report calls for the deferral until it can receive feedback from the Tennessee Department of Transportation on a revised traffic study of the state Highway 153 site.
Once staff receives the study and talks with applicant Scenic Land Co., they’ll be ready to issue a formal recommendation, the report said.
On Monday, local businessman Duane Horton and his Scenic Land Co. is slated to seek the zoning change before the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission for his project dubbed Chattanooga Village.
Horton’s Chattanooga Village is proposing to build up to 280 apartments on a 190-acre site near Boy Scout Road. In addition, he wants to put up new office and retail space in the proposal that has drawn fire from some environmentalists and nearby residents.
