Dunlap police seek pharmacy robber

Police in Dunlap, Tenn., are on the lookout for a man who robbed the Cates Street Pharmacy on Wednesday night at gunpoint, taking a sizable quantity of an unspecified drug.

The robbery happened very quickly, Dunlap police Detective Keith Herron said Friday.

"The guy was very specific about what he wanted," Herron said. "He was less than a minute inside the store."

Herron wouldn't name the drug but said the man took a "large quantity of pills" from the pharmacy right at closing time, around 6 p.m. CST.

Lisa Cooley, a certified technician at the pharmacy, said the man entered the store when the pharmacist was the only employee present.

"He was getting ready to clock out and heard someone come through the door, and there [the robber] was," Cooley said.

She said the pharmacist was "shook up," but no one was hurt.

The suspect was described as 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He was wearing a black mask, a camouflage jacket, jeans and possibly red shoes. He left the store and headed south, triggering an extensive search around town.

Police are working to retrieve surveillance video from the pharmacy, Herron said. A more detailed description could be released if a quality image can be drawn from the video.

Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office Investigator Jody Lockhart said deputies "supplied extra manpower" and helped secure and search the area Wednesday night but the suspect wasn't found.

County detectives will help the city as needed, he said.

Herron said anyone with information about the robbery should contact the Dunlap Police Department at 423-949-3319.
