The Tennessee Valley Authority has contributed $50,000 to the Greater Chattanooga Area Combined Federal Campaign, which will help support the local United Way. TVA said the gift will supplement employee contributions made by federal employees in the 21-county Chattanooga region to the 2012 CFC campaign. The region includes about 8,600 employees of 91 federal agencies. TVA and the U.S. Postal Service have the largest majority of federal employees in the area.
"TVA recognizes the personal contributions of its employees to many worthy causes through CFC," TVA Chief Financial Officer John Thomas said.
Since 1987, CFC gifts have totaled more than $36 million. Federal employees in Chattanooga have raised more than $1.4 million in the past seven years.
November taxes up from 2011
Tennessee Finance Commissioner Mark Emkes says the state's overall revenue collections for November are slightly more than they were this time last year.
Emkes said Monday that November collections were $768.2 million, which is 0.35 percent above last November.
He said November collections for this year were $17 million less than the budgeted estimate, and the general fund fell short by $13.6 million. Emkes said the numbers continue to indicate this will be a "moderate growth year."
