Ahleuchatistas at Barking Legs tonight

Sunday, January 1, 1905

Ahleuchatistas -- guitarist Shane Perlowin and drummer Ryan Oslance -- will perform tonight, Dec. 20, at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave. The show is a collaboration between Flying Fingers Productions and the Shaking Ray Levi Society.

Perlowin and Oslance formed their band in 2002 in Asheville, N.C., basing its identity on the title of a Charlie Parker song, "Ah-leu-cha," and the name of a revolutionary movement that began in Chiapas, Mexico, in 1994, Zapatistas. The combined coinage, pronounced "ah-loo-cha-tees-tas," reflects both a musical revolution and social revolution formed without limits, they say in press material.

With guitar and drums, they interweave elements of punk rock, jazz, classical music, speed metal, grindcore, progressive rock, folk music from Asia and North Africa, electronica and ambient aesthetics. Their live shows have been described as musical odysseys combining tight-knit composition with improvisation.

Tonight's show will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 in advance, $8 for students. To purchase, call 642-LEGS or visit www.barkinglegs.org or www.shakingray.com.
