Eight area players are on the 2012 Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state girls' soccer teams.

The eight come from five schools. GPS, Baylor and Soddy-Daisy have two all-state players each.

GPS, a Division II-AA state finalist, had junior Izzy Phillips and freshman Akia Harris honored. Each scored eight goals this season, Harris adding 10 assists.

Baylor senior midfielder and defender Marci Carter, who is going on to the University of Pittsburgh, had eight assists, while Lady Red Raiders junior goalkeeper Analiese Smith was the final line of defense for a team that allowed less than a goal per match and reached the state final four.

Soddy-Daisy seniors Summer Lanter and Natalie Smith were honored on the Class AAA team. Lanter, a forward who will play for Lee University, had 32 goals and 17 assists despite missing some time with a knee injury, while Austin Peay commitment Natalie Smith finished with 10 goals and 14 assists from her midfield position. They helped the Lady Trojans reach the state quarterfinals.

Notre Dame's Blair Barker and East Hamilton's Chandler Smith made the Class A/AA all-state team. Barker, who has signed to play for Jacksonville State, had seven goals and six assists for the state quarterfinalists. Smith, another senior, totaled 15 goals and six assists for a team that fell in the sectional round.
