KNOXVILLE — Authorities say three people were killed and three others injured in a traffic accident in Campbell County.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, 19-year-old Joshua Peavley was heading westbound on General Carl Stinger Highway in LaFollette around 5:24 p.m. Monday when his pickup crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound vehicle before catching fire.
Peavley was killed, as well as the driver of the car he hit, 59-year-old Gary Mefford, of Jacksboro, Tenn. Mefford’s front-seat passenger, 63-year-old Brenda Mefford, also died in the crash.
Other passengers in Mefford’s car were: 57-year-old Phillip Lee and 5-year-old Alexandria Conley, both of Jacksboro, and 17-year-old Joshua Ivey of Caryville. The extent of their injuries was not reported.
Authorities said the child was not properly restrained and none of the others were wearing seatbelts.
