East Ridge City Council delays court clerk election

Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012

The East Ridge City Council on Thursday delayed the election of a new court clerk.

At a special called meeting, council members discussed the possibility of using the Hamilton County General Sessions Court clerk as an interim measure for the next 18 months.

The council decided in November to change the court clerk from a position appointed by the city judge to an elected position, and initially set a special election for March 5.

But Thursday, councilmen voted 3 to 2 to push the court clerk’s election back until the next regular county election in August 2014. Mayor Brent Lambert and Councilman Larry Sewell voted against the delay.
