Man charged in North Alabama ATV theft

A man has been charged with stealing an all-terrain vehicle in Woodville, Ala., according to a news release.

Jeffery Tyler Mecke, 27, was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property and first-degree theft by deception, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. He was transferred from Jackson County to Madison County.

Mecke is accused of stealing a Honda Foreman 500 ATV in Woodville on Dec. 19, and later selling the vehicle to an independent car lot in Madison County. The vehicle was returned to its owner.

Mecke also is charged with first-degree escape, third-degree robbery and second-degree theft in Lauderdale County, Ala., the release stated.

The Woodville, Ala., Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office cooperated in the investigation.
