2 Florida men die in wreck

The two people killed in a crash Wednesday night on East Brainerd Road have been identified as Florida men, according to a news release.

Danny Greiner, 42, and Christopher Johnson, 43, died at the scene, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson said in the release.

She said the men's 2002 Toyota Camry was traveling west in the 10000 block of East Brainerd Road about 9:45 p.m. The car went off the right side of the road, and the driver overcorrected, sending the car across the center line and off the left side of the road, where it struck a rock and then a tree.

Atkinson said the sheriff's traffic division is investigating.


Shootings of 2 men investigated

Two men were shot in the 2200 block of East 12th Street on Thursday, according to Chattanooga police.

A 17-year-old victim was shot in the back and a 19-year-old victim was shot in the leg about 6:10 p.m., according to a news release.

Both were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police were told that the victims were shot at as they were walking down the street. The shooter left the scene.

An investigation is ongoing.


Man charged in Alabama ATV theft

A man has been charged with stealing an all-terrain vehicle in Woodville, Ala., according to a news release.

Jeffery Tyler Mecke, 27, was charged with first-degree receiving stolen property and first-degree theft by deception, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. He was transferred from Jackson County to Madison County.

Mecke is accused of stealing a Honda Foreman 500 ATV in Woodville on Dec. 19, and later selling the vehicle to an independent car lot in Madison County. The vehicle was returned to its owner.

Mecke also is charged with first-degree escape, third-degree robbery and second-degree theft in Lauderdale County, Ala., the release stated.

The Woodville, Ala., Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office cooperated in the investigation.
