Undecking the halls this weekend? Hamilton County is encouraging residents to drop off their Christmas trees at the county's five household recycling centers through January.

Each center has a designated space outside the gate for Christmas trees.

The trees will be used by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture's Forestry Division, which strategically submerges the trees to attract fish, and the Hamilton County Highway Department, which chips the trees into mulch for landscaping, trails and ground cover at the landfill.

Hamilton County residents can pick up mulch from the chip yard at the Highway Department at 7625 Standifer Gap Road at no charge.

Chattanooga also will recycle Christmas trees.

Residents may leave trees on the curb and call the city's 311 line for pickup, or take trees to refuse centers on North Hawthorne Street and Access Road.
