Vols T logoKNOXVILLE - New Tennessee football coach Butch Jones continues to makes recruiting waves inside the borders of the Volunteers' home state.
Four days after Jones landed his first 2014 commitment from Nashville's Vic Wharton, he pulled in two players from Kingsport's Dobyns-Bennett High School.
Three-star athlete Malik Foreman switched his commitment from Vanderbilt to Tennessee on Saturday, and teammate Devaun Swafford will join him in Knoxville as a grayshirt.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Foreman played quarterback and receiver for the Indians and finished his senior season with about 2,000 yards of offense. Likely a college cornerback, he intercepted six passes in both his junior and senior years. The speedy athlete committed to the Commodores in October, and the only other notable scholarship offer for the No. 22 player in Tennessee according to 247Sports came from Kentucky.
"I really like Coach Jones, and he said he was going to come in and create a new environment and change the culture of the program," Foreman told Tri-Cities radio station WKPT. "I loved Vanderbilt and their program and Coach [James] Franklin and I gave them my word, so I feel bad about that. But it's just been a dream of mine to play at Tennessee and keep playing with Devaun, so I'm excited about that."
Swafford, the 5-11, 180-pound top running back for Dobyns-Bennett, had no Bowl Subdivision offers, but as a grayshirt he wouldn't go on scholarship until next January. He played cornerback and intercepted three passes and was the defensive most valuable player at a Tennessee all-star game earlier this month.
"We are like brothers," Foreman said of his relationship with Swafford. "We've always talked about going to college together and playing together."
