Mugshots stay in people's minds and other letters to the editors

Mugshots stay in people's minds

We have a publication in town that shows mugshots and the attendant charges for people who have just been arrested. I know several folks who have had the charges dismissed. I see no retractions or an accompanying publication to show that the charges were unfounded. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? The public in general will never follow up on these arrests, to see if they were unfounded. They will only remember the mugshot and assume the person to be guilty.

I am in the process of exploring the legal avenues to change/challenge the methods, or at least demand a retraction publication. This is just wrong. It's all about the money. Not justice. No follow-up.

Just for the record, I have no ax to grind. I have never been in this publication. Anyone who has been a victim or agrees with the facts here please respond to Artifax@comcast.net.

GOP won't help the middle class

People armed with facts know what GOP politicians do when they get in office. It is never anything that will help you, the middle class and lower-income people!

For example, the sorry excuse of a governor in Nashville supports the idiotic idea of arming school teachers. Please talk to sane folks to understand what a completely crazy idea that is! He would block affordable health care for Tennessee residents, but cut or eliminate taxes for the ultra-wealthy, such as estate taxes.

Sen. Bob Corker says he is "willing to increase taxes" on those same ultra-wealthy, only if he gets the GOP-sponsored "spending cuts." Everyone knows by now that means destroying Social Security and Medicare, the only hopes left for so many of our elderly and disabled. That is the same old line from all Republicans!

Spending cuts! Really! The GOP votes to hand more money to the Pentagon than was even requested so that our outstanding USA troops can kill and be killed while spreading more and more hatred of Americans throughout the world.

The good news is that more and more younger voters know how hatefully insane the GOP has become, and without drastic changes, will become irrelevant.

Jesus Christ>>>John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, "I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life..."

'Guilty Until Proven Innocent'

Jesus Christ proclaimed that He Is Creator God of The Universe (All existence)! He proclaimed that since He Is God, then, He Is the only Way to come to God, or, to know God.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press readers are 'here & Now' individuals who know the value of being currently informed about the events of their world! This is intelligence/wisdom.

"New Year's Eve". I wish all a Happy and Prosperous New Year in The Lord Jesus Christ. In 2012 43 Million humans had to leave their homes due to conflict and violence. There were 73 Million Forced Migrants (46% Children, 49% Women). Natural and Technological Disasters displaced 15 Million humans in 2012. And on, and on. 2011 was the worst year for natural disasters and now 2012 may top that. Suffering Humanity.

Now, please 'hear' this. Do we want Jesus Christ to be our Saviour, or, our Judge only, who meets out deserved chastisement/discipline? Multiplied times we see one tiny Christian village blessed when there is poverty, warfare, and, disasters all around them. Chattanooga has been comparatively blessed due to a host of praying Christians (And a Newspaper that is not afraid to post regular Bible Scripture). Please know that the Holy Bible says, "The fool has said in his heart that there is no God." Those who know virtually nothing, except that they don't want to live by Christian morality, would have us go the way of the old Soviet Union! So, for my New Year's Eve proclamation, I give to many a resounding 'Thank You' for Your Christian prayers and witness. Our Lord God and Saviour, Jesus Christ is allowing Chattanooga, Tennessee to prosper because of You.

You are few in number, but, Christ Jesus said, "Straight is the gate, and, narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and, few there be which find it." Finally we are beginning to plainly see the 'Sheep' separated from the 'Goats'. And, by this, we are understanding more completely what Jesus said, "...few there be which find it."

I like the mugshots. Seems like only yesterday there was Wamp, Crutchfield, Love, Newton, Billy Long, Tom Delay, Scooter, and a bunch of fine fellows, Democrats and Republicans, smiling for the camera, with those sad, hang-dog looks of a little boy caught playing doctor with his "patients" (Dr. DesJarlais got an early start).

Bring 'em on! It's always great to remember Wamp when he had hair and a twitchy writing finger.

daytonsdarwin...Obviously you have never had a friend lose his/her job because their mugshots were in that rag.I have. A friend was falsely accused of assault and arrested. He was later found to be NOT GUILTY and all charges were dropped. It was too late as he had already been fired from his job simply because his picture was in that rag. He has since lost his house because he can't find a job making comparable income and unemployment didn't cover his bills.

Perhaps we should do like the President and military. Lock people up without charges, mugshots, or notifying next of kin. Like Gitmo.

Thanks Patriot Act, National Security Acts, and other alphabet soup names to detain and imprison people without hapeas corpus.

Or you could run mug shots of arrested people. Some of our finest congressmen, executives, CEOs, politicians, administrators, police, priests, and preachers have appeared in mugshots (or should soon), and that's a grand old feeling.

I'll stay in favor of mugshots. Some of them are laugh-out-loud funny and offer justification for abortion, condom use, and plastic surgery.

Be glad your parents used some sense in choosing your name. Have you looked at some of the monickers in the mugshot parade? Where else can you learn what NOT to name a child? I didn't know you could spell "kisha" in so many ways. Nor did I know that the more syllables in the name, the dumber the arrested looks? Mouth-Breathers of the World Unite!

It's a good place to show your child why tattoos on a visible body part may be a bad idea, that a good hair style makes a difference in your appearance, and that meth leads to complexion problems.

It's also a great place for some to scout out potential dates. Who wouldn't want to date a transvestite name Summer (preachers get first crack at this one) or a shaved-headed, mini-goatee lump of proteins named Chaz? Might save your daughter time in selecting your future son-in-law and your fifteen grandchildren to be.

Keep the mugshots, but expand the section. Have those arrested do a five-minute recitation of the events that got them locked in the slammer. Talk about a hoot! Let's see who remembers those "Public Speaking" classes in junior high. Hire interpreters for former jocks, gang-bangers, and everyone with dreadlocks with only two-teeth, and tear-drop tats by the eye.

Tell them if they can recite the Ten Commandments (they've been around quite a while now, everywhere, but nobody cares)they can get out of jail free as a token of God's love and a $50 dollar love offering to the Sheriff Hammond Gospel Club (Billy Long, treasurer).

So keep the mugshots coming! Can't wait to see the next good Christian man arrested for soliciting prostitution then explaining he was only trying to save their soul with a couple of tens and a Trojan. Priceless!

Also tell them to lay off crack, no facial tats, get a name that's simple to pronounce and spell, and avoid religious fanatics, particularly overweight preachers with toupees and outstretched palms for alms.
