Registration opens at 3 a.m. EST Tuesday for all the 2013 Salomon Rock/Creek Trail Series races except for the Upchuck 50k in November; historically, several of them fill up early. Sign-ups may be done at www.rockcreek.com for the Rock/Creek River Gorge Trail Race with 10.2- and 6.5-mile options on March 23; the Scenic City Trail Marathon and Half Marathon on May 18 on Raccoon Mountain; the Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race on Raccoon (18 miles), Lookout (22 miles) and Signal (20 miles) mountains June 14-16, the Still Hollow Half Marathon and 10k at South Enterprise on Aug. 10, the Southern 6(k) at Southern Adventist University on Sept. 15, the Rock/Creek StumpJump 50k and 11-mile races on Oct. 5 and the Lookout Mountain 50-miler and 10k on Dec. 21. The Upchuck is set for Nov. 9.
Basketball
• The Sewanee women's basketball team rebounded from a cold-shooting loss Saturday at Washington & Lee with a 54-51 victory Sunday at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va. Sophomore post Kayla Sewell from Walker Valley High School had 15 rebounds with 12 points, six assists and five blocked shots to lead the Tigers (5-4), while Jamie Samociuk also scored 12 points, Jamie Chauvin tallied 10 and Paige Lowe made six steals. Randolph's Emilee Dunton led all scorers with 16 points. Sewell gave Sewell a 52-51 lead with a putback with 16 seconds to go, and Chauvin added two late free throws after a defensive rebound.
