No surprise that Iran may hit United States on our own soil

Why should it surprise anyone that U.S. intelligence officials have indicated they believe that Iran is willing to back terrorist attacks on American soil?

After all, Iran has been promoting terrorism throughout the Middle East for decades -- including the hostage-taking of scores of Americans in Iran during the Carter administration. And much more recently, Iran said it plans to deploy warships near the U.S. coast.

Is it any real shock, therefore, that James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, has informed the Senate Intelligence Committee that Iran is likely to become even bolder about striking our nation on our own soil?

He pointed to the recent Iranian plot to create international chaos by assassinating a high-ranking official from Saudi Arabia in the United States.

Meanwhile, of even greater concern, Iran is strongly believed to be building nuclear weapons.

Iran's deadly crackdowns on its own people when they demonstrate against government oppression -- as well as its ongoing terrorist activity and its threats to wipe Israel off the map -- make it abundantly clear that it should never be allowed to become a nuclear power.
