Stepping out: New opportunities for volunteers

CHATTANOOGA AREA FOOD BANK

  • Pack boxes: Individuals 13 or older needed to sort canned goods and pack emergency food boxes for families, no heavy lifting involved. One day a week for two hours. Tuesday and Thursday morning volunteers will sort vegetables.

  • Drivers: Help with Sack Pack and Second Helpings routes on Thursdays. jevans@chattfoodbank.org or 622-1800.

CONTACT

  • Help-line staff: Answer crisis intervention lines, three- or four-hour shift from agency's call center or from home. Training provided. 899-5719.

HOUSTON MUSEUM OF DECORATIVE ARTS

  • Docents: Train to give tours, flexible schedule Thursday-Sunday, noon-4 p.m.

  • Retail: Work in gift shop selling, wrapping and doing some light dusting. 267-7176.

SISKIN HOSPITAL FOR PHYSICAL REHABILITATION

  • Telephone Operators: Answer calls at downtown campus, flexible scheduling 9 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday. Volunteers who work eight or more hours per week receive free access to Fitness Center. Volunteers who work minimum of four hours a day receive free meal. Candidates required to provide two letters of recommendation. 634-1674 or email info@siskinrehab.org.

UNITED WAY VOLUNTEER CENTER

To volunteer for any of these positions, call Windy Brooks at 752-0316, unless otherwise noted.

  • Alzheimer's Association: Data entry volunteers needed four to six hours a month; office assistant needed to answer phones, help with mailings, file and organize.

  • Epilepsy Foundation: Event staff needed for Chocolate Fling fundraiser and for silent auction committee.

  • St. Barnabas Senior Living Services: Share your talent by singing/performing for residents at assisted living and nursing home campuses.

  • Signal Centers: Assist marketing and development office with special events, flexible scheduling Monday-Saturday.

  • United Way's Volunteer Center: Help with data entry in the 2-1-1 Call Center; serve as project coordinator for an upcoming event.
