Group behind Chattanooga mayor recall has hearing today

by Cliff Hightower

Do you think Mayor Littlefield should be recalled?

A group responsible for forcing a scheduled recall election of Mayor Ron Littlefield will try to intervene in the case.

Jim Folkner, with Citizens to Recall Mayor Littlefield, said a hearing is set for 1 p.m. today in Circuit Court Judge Jeff Hollingsworth’s courtroom on whether the group will be able to intervene.

Intervening allows those who think they may be affected by the recall to plead their case and also to appeal the court’s ruling if they disagree with it.

Another hearing is set for tomorrow in which Hollingsworth will hear arguments on whether to issue a permanent injunction to stop an August recall election against Littlefield.

The mayor and the recall groups have been in court battles for more than a year and a half after the groups acquired thousands of signatures on petitions calling for his ouster.

The Hamilton County Election Commission certified the recall petitions in November and then set a recall election for August.
