Receiver Stefon Diggs picks Maryland

Receiver Stefon Diggs, the top remaining uncommitted football prospect nationally in the 2012 signing class, announced Friday evening that he was staying home by signing with Maryland.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder picked the Terrapins, who went 2-10 this past season, over Auburn, Florida and Ohio State. He is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 8 prospect nationally and the No. 2 receiver behind Dorial Green-Beckham, who signed Feb. 1 with his home-state program, Missouri.

"I want to win a championship, and I want to win bowl games," Diggs said. "Where else is a better place to do it than your city?"

Diggs ended a streak of elite prospects who have left Maryland in recent years, a list that includes defensive tackle Eddie Goldman (Florida State) this year, offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio (Alabama) last year and linebacker Jelani Jenkins (Florida) in 2008.

Florida has shown a need at receiver the past two seasons, but the Gators did not sign a receiver ranked among Rivals.com's top 30 nationally at that position.

Wiggins to UGA

Georgia picked up its fourth commitment for its 2013 class Friday when Shaquille Wiggins, a 5-10, 160-pound cornerback from Tyrone, Ga., gave a nonbinding pledge. According to Rivals.com, Wiggins also had early scholarship offers from Ohio State and Tennessee.

The other three commitments for Georgia are quarterback Brice Ramsey of Kingsland, Ga., safety Tray Matthews of Newnan, Ga., and athlete Derrick Henry of Yulee, Fla.
