Chattanooga granted 125 building permits in January with a collective value of $55.2 million. The biggest projects begun last month included:

1 Amazon distribution center equipment upgrades, including a new build-pick module system by Indiana Industrial and conveyer expansion by Dematic Corp., on Volkswagen Drive, $16.3 million.

2 Memorial Hospital patient tower, part of main hospital upgrade at 2525 DeSales Ave. in Glenwood, by Brasfield and Gorrie, $9.6 million.

3 Volkswagen hail net protection covering at the VW's new car lot, 8001 Volkswagen Drive, by USA Shade and Fabric, $4.5 million.

4 North Towne Place Suites hotel by Marriott at 7010 McCutcheon Road built by EMJ Corp., for the 3H Group, $4.4 million.

5 City's well advantage upgrade at 620 E. 11th Street, by DBS Corp., $3.5 million.
