The world welcomed the end of oppressive regimes in both Egypt and Libya in recent months. In the case of Libya, that came about in part because of significant U.S. military aid.
But tragically, Egypt now appears on track to be taken over by radical Muslims who may be worse than former dictator Hosni Mubarak. And Libya is in chaos, its future unclear.
So it is alarming that some members of Congress want the United States to arm rebels who are opposing the brutal regime in the Middle Eastern nation of Syria.
We sympathize with Syrians' suffering, but the al-Qaida terrorist network is using the rebellion to seek power in that country. That could mean bigger problems than the current oppression by President Bashar Assad.
The United States should avoid military involvement in Syria.
