Willie Martinez is back in the Southeastern Conference.

The former Georgia defensive backs coach and defensive coordinator was named Friday as a defensive assistant at Auburn, where he is reuniting with new Tigers defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder. Martinez, who turns 49 next week, spent the past two seasons as Oklahoma's secondary coach.

"Willie Martinez is an experienced coach that has been very successful in this conference and understands the rigors of coaching and recruiting in the SEC," Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said. "We're excited to have him on board and look forward to bringing his knowledge and experience to our staff."
