Even adults who get tattoos sometimes regret it. So it is certain that many young people will sooner or later have regrets if they get tattoos.
That and questions of safety and hygiene are excellent reasons why juveniles should not be permitted to get tattoos. And in Tennessee, fortunately, it is prohibited for a person under the age of 18 to get a tattoo.
But there is a bit of a debate over whether a stricter law should be enacted to require people such as doctors or teachers to call the authorities if they come in contact with a tattooed juvenile.
It’s hard to say whether that’s a wise idea. Obviously our laws should be obeyed. But we can see how it would place an extra burden on teachers and others who already have their hands full with their ordinary duties. A reporting adult also might not know whether the juvenile got the tattoo in Tennessee or in a state where perhaps it is lawful.
We’ll let lawmakers sort out those legal pros and cons.
But the best way to keep youngsters from going down the wrong path is for caring, responsible parents to provide guidance that makes bad choices less attractive.

Both parents and schools need to instill in kids at a young age that popular trends like tattoos and on-line postings can be an un-erasable plague that will hinder them in their future family, social and job positions.
Did you ever notice that those in mugshots, those in gangs, those engaged in antisocial behavior, those on drugs, those who constantly use obscene language, those who are slovenly dressed, most often have tattoos and are Lieberals?
Tattoos are a warning sign!
Did you ever notice that conservative tends to associate everything negative with others?
I believe that's a bit reflective of something anti-social. That means you're a liberal. Change your name.
I did notice that you made no attempt to refute what I wrote.
Why refute foolishness?
You couldn't either.
Had one that I got on a whim when I was 17 and had it removed last year by a series of laser treatments. It's expensive, but happy I finally got that foolish thing off. Glad I didn't get more of them. I'd suggest that if you feel a desire to express yourself with a tattoo, then go for the temporary ones. A lot of times as we grow, our views change and we wish we hadn't gotten something so permanent as a tattoo.

Conservative, I don't know any marines without tattoos. Are they all librulz?
YANO --
I don't believe for a second that you know marines who have had a mugshot, are members of gangs, engage in antisocial behavior, are on drugs, constantly use obscene language and are slovenly dressed.
How dare you besmirch those who proudly wear the marine uniform.
Are you suggesting that all those Main Street artists sporting their tattoos are in gangs?, engaged in antisocial behavior?, use drugs?, dress slovenly?, use obscene language?
I need you badly to come up with an argument for leaving ham off of a ham sandwich. LOL
Conservative, don't lie and say that I have besmirched the marines! I would never do that! You did that by implying that there is something wrong with people who have tattoos.
Yano -
My list was not exhaustive, you infered it was and tried to include marines.
jjmez--
YOU brought up "main street artists". How could that be a suggestion of mine?
I honestly don't know any marines who don't use obscene language.
And sadly I do know more than a few who have had criminal records while in service. For use o f drugs.
