Young widow in Oklahoma proves value of Second Amendment

A frightening incident in Oklahoma highlights one of the reasons for our Constitution's Second Amendment right to bear arms: In some cases, police simply cannot arrive fast enough to protect people from intruders in their homes.

Two men recently tried to get into the home of a newly widowed young mother in rural Blanchard, Okla. The woman, Sarah Dawn McKinley, called 911 and asked the operator whether she could shoot if the men came through the door. The operator advised her to protect her infant son however she had to.

The police had not arrived when one of the men -- armed with a hunting knife -- burst in. McKinley was left with no choice. She shot and killed the intruder. The second man fled but was captured.

We should all hope never to be in such a terrifying situation. But a would-be criminal's knowledge that his potential victim might be armed prevents many crimes from even beginning, and responsible gun ownership provides a measure of protection against determined offenders.

Well, sometimes old news is still good to repeat. The world is getting crazier by the day, and with the economic situation, poor availability for jobs with decent wages, fuel prices on the rise etc., violent crimes increase. The cops can't be next to you 24/7. It's not their fault. Most criminals have a habit waiting until the police aren't around to practice their occupations, so it's often you against them and their violent methods. If you can't believe in God and the protection of angels, you have an alternative in your second amendment rights. Get a weapon, go to a qualified instructor, become familiar with it and protect yourself and your family. Hopefully you will never have to use it, but if you do, you'll curtail, or eliminate, an evil element from society and get to live and love another day.

And with the increased risk of a firearms accident, a domestic incident or something else that takes away that day. Odds are it will be a net loss.

But you want to talk about most criminals? They aren't interested in violence or confrontation, they want to rob by deception or inattention. Much better for them.

If you really want to protect yourself, get a dog. Security and it will keep you warm in bed.
