UTC softball player, Michelle Fuzzard

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Michelle Fuzzard was announced as the Southern Conference softball player of the week after she went 5-for-6 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs in the weekend tournament hosted by Georgia State. That gave her a 2.000 slugging percentage for the event. This is the sixth time in her career that Fuzzard has been the SoCon player or pitcher of the week. The Lady Mocs host their annual Frost Classic this weekend.

• Jacksonville State senior catcher Kaycee Crow from Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe was the Ohio Valley Conference softball player of the week after going 4-for-4 with 11 total bases and four RBIs in a come-from-behind win over Southeastern Louisiana and driving in a run against Southern Illinois. Crow had two homers against Southeastern Louisiana, including a three-run shot to go with her double in an eighth-run sixth inning.

Baseball

• Belmont freshman Scott Moses from McMinn Central High School was the Atlantic Sun baseball pitcher of the week. In his first college game, Moses pitched four innings Friday in relief of McCallie graduate Chase Brookshire in preserving a 2-0 win over Evansville. Brookshire struck out five batters and allowed two hits in five innings; Moses struck out eight and gave up one hit. Leadoff batter Dylan Craig from Baylor was 0-for-2 with an RBI for the Bruins and was 1-for-2 in their 2-0 loss to Kansas before going 1-for-3 with a run in a 5-4 win over Saint Louis.

• Lee University used a 10-run third inning to beat visiting Rio Grande 12-1 in NAIA baseball Monday in Cleveland. Corey Davis was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and four RBIs and Roberto Reyes doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Flames (12-2). Edmanuel Rivera was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs and Brady Renner was 1-for-2 with two walks, three runs and an RBI. Five Lee pitchers combined on a five-hitter.

Basketball

• Lee University's Ryan Westbrooks was the Southern States Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week for the second time this season after he scored scored 27 points in a rout of fourth-ranked Southern Polytechnic and 20 in a one-point loss to No. 9 Mountain State. The senior leads the 14th-ranked Flames with 17.5 points a game and is the NAIA's second-best free-throw shooter at 88 percent.

• The Bryan College women's basketball season that began with 10 wins in 11 games concluded at 14-16 on Monday with an 87-68 loss to Columbia College in the matchup of the eighth and ninth seeds in the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament. The Fighting Koalas (8-22) led 44-24 at halftime and got 18 points and 11 assists from Krystle Remigio, 18 points and 10 rebounds from Angelique Kenee Green and 17 points, nine rebounds and six steals from Krystal Morissette. Morgan Burnette had 16 points, 11 rebounds, four blocked shots and four assists for Bryan, and Anna Thomas had 12 points and 14 rebounds. The Lady Lions committed 30 turnovers. Columbia will play at top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday night.

• The AAC men's basketball tournament begins tonight with No. 1 seed Tennessee Wesleyan hosting No. 8 Union College and fourth seed Bryan hosting No. 5 Virginia Intermont, both at 7. TWC's Quincy Scates was the AAC men's player of the week after averaging 23 points in three victories, giving him an 18.2 average for the season.

Fishing

• Bryan Gregory of Fort Payne, Ala., and John Talton of Georgetown, Tenn., were first and second in the Walmart Bass Fishing League Bama Division tournament Saturday on Lake Guntersville, and Harold Beavers of Soddy-Daisy, Marshall Deakins of Dunlap and Philip Dukes of Rainsville were fifth, eighth and 10th. Gregory's five-bass limit totaled 34 pounds and earned him $4,163, while Talton got $2,082 for his 27-1 bag. Beavers' total was 24-14, Deakins' was 23-5 and Dukes' was 22-13.

Track and Field

• Senior Danielle Alfano from Chattanooga and Notre Dame High School set a King College record for the women's one-mile run for the third time this indoor season in the Gene Anderson Invitational meet this past weekend at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Alfano finished third in the race with a time of 5 minutes, 10.25 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than her record from a week earlier.
