Top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan defeated Union College 66-59 but fourth seed Bryan lost at home to fifth-seeded Virginia Intermont, 72-70, in Appalachian Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Marquette Knight scored 17 points, including the winning basket with five seconds to go for the Cobras (16-14), who will play Thursday night at 7 at Wesleyan. Jim Ross had 16 points and eight rebounds and Justin Morris added 14 points for Intermont.

Tim Fortenberry scored 17 points and Dion Fair had 11 plus seven assists and three steals for Bryan, which ended its season at 13-18. Lavonte Henderson had 10 rebounds.

Desmond Crisp scored 20 points and Shannon Smith and E'Jay Ward added 11 and 10 for TWC's Bulldogs (22-9). Ward, from Brainerd High School, also had eight assists and four steals.

Covenant's men won 63-58 at Berry with Jon DeVries' 10 points leading the balanced Scots (8-17), but the Lady Scots lost 74-60 despite Jessie Blankenship's 21 points and seven rebounds. Ruth Gibson and Christine Core scored 11 and 10 points and Morgan Woodward had five steals and five assists for Covenant (5-19). Mel McLean scored 19 points with 5-of-6 3-point shooting for Berry (8-14).

Bethany Allen from Polk County had 32 points and 12 rebounds for Hiwassee, but the Lady Tigers lost 84-54 at Tennessee Temple (6-22), which got 17 points apiece from Samantha Robinson and Shakoya Monroe and 12 from Shayla Wilson.
