Chattanooga State softball team are 17-2 for the season

The Chattanooga State softball team went 2-1 in a trio of low-scoring one-run games Friday in the Gulf Coast Beach Classic at Panama City, Fla. The Lady Tigers are 17-2 for the season and play three games again today.

Ashley Czechner pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 2-1 win over Lakeland and a one-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 1-0 defeat of Wallace State-Hanceville when Andi Johnson singled in the run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Shelby Johnson doubled to lead off the inning and went to third on Christian Ward's bunt.

Kourtney Kroll singled in both first-game runs on a 3-0 count in the sixth inning.

Between those games, Jana Scheff pitched well but lost 1-0, with relief from Czechner, to Gulf Coast.

• At Decatur, Ala., in the Alabama Arctic Blast tournament, Lee University edged Campbellsville 4-3 and beat Milligan 13-1 in five innings, and Bryan (3-5) lost 4-2 to Thomas and 11-2 to Campbellsville.

Dominique Hannah was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Savanna Bell also had two hits in Lee's first game, when Brittany Balough was the winning pitcher. Backing Jessa Watts' and Katie Deems' pitching against Milligan, Ana Coscorrosa was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Jenevieve Cena was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, Kelsey Barnes and Charlie Wooden each was 2-for-4 and combined for three RBIs and three runs and Bell scored three times for the Lady Flames (8-0).

• Thursday at Bristol, Tenn., Caitlyn Lance from Ridgeland High School and Bri Shoemake from Ooltewah each drove in two runs in Carson-Newman's 7-5 win over King, Lance going 2-for-3, and Shoemake was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Sara Kelley from Ooltewah was 2-for-3 and scored a run in an 8-3 second-game loss. Another Lady Eagle from Ooltewah, Jessica Morgan, had an RBI in each game.

Bryan wins two

Shane Clawson went 5-for-6 with three home runs, four RBIs and four runs scored as the Bryan baseball team beat Pikeville 9-3 and 9-4 on Friday.

Doug Stroup matched Clawson with three RBIs in game one, when Tyler Latham was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs and Matt Roberson also homered. Josh Harris was 2-for-3 and had two RBIs in game two, when Billy Veal and Justin Mock also had two RBIs each and Latham was 2-for-4.

• At Athens, Tenn., Tennessee Wesleyan won 9-6 in eight innings and 8-1 against visiting Indiana Southeast.

• At Birmingham, Jonathan Carter's RBI double was one of only four Covenant hits in a 3-2 loss to Birmingham-Southern, which got three unearned runs off Tyler Smith. Brian Simons faced the minimum in three relief innings for the Scots (3-2).
