Tennessee's first heart transplant recipient dies

NASHVILLE - The first person from Tennessee to undergo a heart transplant has died. Randall Lee Daily of Greenbrier was 49 years old when he died Friday at a nursing home in Springfield.

According to his obituary, Daily was just 14 years old in 1977 when he traveled to Stanford University Hospital in California to get a new heart. His family had a history of heart problems and his younger brother also received a heart transplant in 1979 at the age of 13.

The Tennessean reported that his first transplanted heart was healthy until 1992 when he had a second heart transplant, also at Stanford University (http://tnne.ws/yNkdQK). No cause of death was listed. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday.
