Dalton woman, 26, killed in early morning crash, alcohol may be involved, police say

A 26-year-old Dalton woman was killed early Sunday when the car she was driving ran off the roadway and overturned in a ditch, authorities said.

Alcohol may have been involved in the crash, said Bruce Frazier, spokesman for the Dalton Police Department.

Ashleigh Nicole Sims was killed about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, just north of the intersection of Chattanooga Road/U.S. 41 and Shugart Road,

According to witnesses, Sims' car was traveling south on Chattanooga Road when it veered left, crossed the northbound lanes of traffic and ran off the road.

When they arrived, officers found the top of the vehicle submerged in water and Sims was unresponsive, Frazier said.

She was pulled from the car and CPR was performed until paramedics arrived.

She was transported to Hamilton Medical Center and later transported by LifeForce to Erlanger hospital. She was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Frazier said.

The investigation is continuing, he said.
