CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Cleveland City School Board this morning approved a $38.9 million budget for fiscal year 2012-2013, which begins in July.

The proposed budget goes now to the City Council. That panel has a budget meeting set for March 12.

The proposed city schools budget includes a three percent pay raise for all employees and step raises for those who qualify. The three percent is contingent on the Tennessee Legislature approving Gov. Bill Haslam's state budget that contains a 2.5 percent pay increase, said Dr. Martin Ringstaff, city schools director.

The city system is adding the additional pay amount based on increased local sales tax revenue and state funds.

City schools employees received a 2.6 percent increase last year, including 1.6 percent from the state.
