The defending Tennessee state champion Cleveland High School wrestling team won the Independence Holiday tournament Friday at Thompson's Station, Tenn., with six individual champions and two runners-up. The Blue Raiders totaled 241.5 points, compared to 140 for second-place host Independence High and 130.5 for third-place Scottsboro (Ala.). Gainesville (Fla.), coached by former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestler John Davis, was fourth in the 17-team tournament. The Cleveland champs were Chris DeBien (106 pounds), Austin Stevison (113), Austin Oliver (120), Haden Hamilton (132), Brandon Strickland (138) and Jesse Jones (182), and Oleg Stukanov (195) and Jordan Hines (285) finished second. The Blue Raiders' Ezra Taylor (126), Josh Hamilton (152) and Seth Snyder (220) earned third-place medals, and 126-pounder Aaron Oliver was fourth.
• McCallie claimed five individual championships in a second-place team finish in the Heart of Dixie Classic that concluded Friday in Birmingham, Ala. Blue Tornado champs were Alex Elsea (113), Adam Connell (120), Tim Westbrooks (132), Alex Ward (138) and Tye Youngblood (285). McCallie had five additional medalists in third-place finishers Eliot Berz (170) and Casey Cook (220), fourth-place James Westbrooks (106), sixth-place Nathan Hoodenpyle and seventh-place Calum McCroskey.

• FERRUM, Va. -- Lamont King and Daryl Hart scored 19 and 16 points and Marcus Mayo had 11 points, 12 assists and four steals as Ferrum College defeated Covenant 72-52 in NCAA Division III men's basketball Saturday afternoon. Callum Sears and Colton McGriff scored 13 and 12 points, McGriff adding seven rebounds, to lead Covenant (4-8), which committed 25 turnovers and shot 42.2 percent from the field while their 7-4 hosts were shooting 54.7 percent.
• UPLAND, Ind. -- The Bryan College women's basketball team dropped to 10-3 with its second loss in two days in the Taylor University tournament, 65-57 to the host team on Saturday. Morgan Burnette had 16 points, 10 rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals and Sarah Newton added 10 points for Bryan, and both made the all-tournament team. Tess Rudolph scored 20 points and fellow all-tournament choice Erin Guarneri had 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals for Taylor (11-4).
• HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- NCAA Division II member Alabama-Huntsville thrashed winless Tennessee Temple 117-37 in women's basketball Saturday. Jordan Smith had 22 points and eight assists, Shannon Steinert scored 17 points with 5-of-5 3-point shooting and Jasmine Hammon had 16 points, five assists and four steals for the Lady Chargers (8-2), coached by former Covenant coach Roy Heintz. LaQuinta Gallishaw led Temple (0-16) with nine points.
