Samford knocks off Mocs

Saturday, January 14, 2012

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Samford picked up its first Southern Conference win of the season today at the Hanna Center, beating the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball team 81-70.

The Bulldogs led 44-32 at the half and remained in control of the game until UTC's Dontay Hampton was inserted into the game and drilled three 3-pointers in a short stretch to get the Mocs back in the game.

UTC eventually took a brief lead, 49-48, with 12:33 to play when Omar Wattad made a pair of free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt. But Samford responded to every challenge and sealed the win at the free-throw line.
