MACON, Ga. -- Northwest Georgia was shut out for the second consecutive year in the championship round of the GHSA wrestling duals tournament Saturday, though one case remains a mystery to many.

Class AAA favorite Heritage could not defeat Gilmer County for the third time in a month, losing 29-27 in the title round as the Bobcats captured their third consecutive state duals championship.

Gordon Lee' s 31-29 loss to Holy Innocents' in the Class A final is still being debated. With the Trojans ahead 27-25 with two individual matches to go, 106-pound freshman Jonny Ragsdale defeated his opponent 18-6 for what would have been a six-point team lead. However, the referee, who had earlier disqualified a wrestler on each team for illegal moves, called a flagarent misconduct penalty on Ragsdale as the two wrestlers were rising from the mat.

Not only did it cost the Trojans the four points for the major decision, but the team was penalized two points, clinching the title for the Golden Bears. The Trojans, who defeated three-time defending champion Bremen earlier Saturday in the semifinals, did not accept the second-place trophy.

Heritage was leading its match with Gilmer 15-9 before the Bobcats reeled off two pins and a technical fall for a 26-15 lead with three matches to go. Gilmer's Justin Karr, a state runner-up last year, clinched the title with a 5-2 win.

"I think we came in a bit overconfident," Generals coach Kenny Hill said. "We had a couple of kids who didn't wrestle as they have been, but give Gilmer all the credit in the world. We had the team to beat them, but we didn't take care of business."
