Burial caskets maker Batesville Casket plans to invest nearly $7 million and create about 35 new jobs in an expansion at its Manchester, Tenn., site.

“It is always a vote of confidence for our state when existing Tennessee businesses decide to expand at home,” state Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty said.

Kim Dennis, Batesville president, said part of its success is having the flexibility to manufacture products in two locations – in Batesville, Ind., and Manchester.

Batesville will be hiring production supervisor, manufacturing and maintenance posts.

I know that companies can do what they want to as far as layoff or shutting down plants due to economy, but this company tell us (workers) that sales are down for us to only find out that is not the case at all. If they were really concerned about its associates it would just re-vamp the factory to meet the ever changing needs of the market---BUT NOOO....they decide to shut down an entire shift then hire new people at another factory.

This company use to be family oriented and care about all of us, but now its all about the money. They don't care about anything but corporate and shareholders. As far as the company telling these different news people that they will help us find other jobs in Batesville, there are no jobs in Batesville..unless you want to take a MAJOR pay cut and work at McDonald's. The quality has suffered over the years due to them worrying about quantity rather then quality. So thanks BCC for devastating alot of families for your own personal gain.

Hey Manchester, BEWARE! this is the ploy that the company is useing to break up the union cause they want to cut our pay and our vacations, Our contract is up in may, with the lay off and all the bumping going on people are blaming the union, we had no control over this, but mark my words, they told us these units they are sending you from up here can be brought back!!!! So when it is time for your contract to be renewed, watch and see if you don't lose the units and they spend money on our plant while they cut your pay too.
