The new director has an extensive background in choral and instrumental music. A retired music educator in Chattanooga public schools, he is director of music at Brainerd United Methodist Church. He is a member and assistant director of the MidSouth Band and is a former director of the Chattanooga Boys Choir.

Long said that the chorale has grown from a dozen members to more than 60 singers and produces several concerts per year under the sponsorship of Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors.
