A Hamilton County corrections officer has been charged with aggravated assault, official oppression and misdemeanor child abuse.
The charges against Officer Robert Medford are in connection with an incident that occurred on Dec. 29 at the Hamilton County Jail involving a juvenile inmate, said Janice Atkinson, spokeswoman for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to witnesses, Medford became upset after the inmate sprayed a germicide liquid on him, Atkinson said. He entered the inmate’s cell and used an unauthorized holding technique on the juvenile, she said.
Medford was arrested and booked today and paid the $10,000 bond, she said.
He has been suspended without pay pending the conclusion of the criminal charges, Atkinson said.
