Catoosa County Sheriff's Office Deputy Gary Sisk is throwing his name into the race for sheriff.

Sisk, who has been with the department for 21 years, said he decided to run when current Sheriff Phil Summers decided to retire.

Sisk, 43, said he was hired as a deputy, worked his way through the ranks and has been in a command position for more than 10 years. He said that, if elected, he wants to address the high recidivism rate in the county jail.

"Half the jail population is sitting there because of a probation violation," he said.

Sisk said he would like to find alternatives to locking up probation violators.

He has been married for 18 years and has two daughters, 10 and 3 years old.
