Letters to the Editor

Don't give the keys to Newt Gingrich

I am someone who agrees and looks at life from the right side of matters. However, from the left, no better presentation could have been made about Newt Gingrich and who he really is, other than stating flat out -- it is "all about Newt."

Talk about a history, that man has a history, and not one to be proud of. I surely cannot throw the first stone. However, I am not trying to be the leader of our country.

If you think things are bad now, just wait till you hand the keys to dear ole Newt.

We can be forgiven, but where is the repentance?

Bennett has no peer in area of distortion

The Times-Free Press now has announced an upcoming contest in which readers will be given the opportunity to provide the caption to one of Clay Bennett's upcoming cartoons. The question has been asked, "Are you as clever as Clay?" Whereas I do not offer myself as such an example, I am sure there are others in the Chattanooga area whose wit at least exceeds his. Certainly Bennett is not the only bright light of cleverness shining in Chattanooga.

Another question could be asked, "Can you draw cartoons as well as Clay?" Again, I am sure there are artists here whose skill far exceeds Bennett's banal and inane artistic style.

On the other hand, as to the question, "Are you as partisan as Clay?," the answer is an overwhelming and resounding "no." There is no one to compare with Bennett as a mouthpiece of propaganda offering continually a one-sided, blatantly distorted and extremely partisan view of the political scene. In that regard Bennett stands alone with no peers at all.

Obama greatest food-stamp leader

Fact, not "lie": Mr Obama is indeed "the greatest food-stamp president in American history," for as the Times (Jan. 19) knows and even admits, more people are on food stamps now than ever before.

As for the meaning of the fact, where Mr. Gingrich speaks of people, the Times inserts "(black)." How "racially divisive" of you liberals! Paul Krugman, Maureen Dowd and Satan would be proud of you.

And while president Obama hasn't pushed food stamps in particular, he is trying to give the D.C. bureaucratic 1 percent more control over health care and insurance for us 99 percent. He does promote dependency. Solyndra needed his regime's help; so did the fast and furious drug cartels.

Stimulus? Making independents pay for dependency jobs with borrowed money, despite the failure of president Bush's deficits to stimulate.

Try Gingrich or Santorum or Ron Paul.

Way to go, Mr. Nagle! You figured out that Mr. Bennett is a political cartoonist. How long have you worked on this?

Andrew Lohr:

FDR was president during the Great Depression too but he did not cause the record unemployment rate; he inherited the conditions that caused it. The Newtster has coined a term that you and your zombified right-wing contingent love to repeat because it just has such a nice ring in your vacant minds. It's catchy, isn't it? - "the food stamp president." But it's total BS and you know it. Gingrich makes it sound like Obama has been handing out food stamps to people left and right. But the fact of the matter, as you well know, is that he has put no one on food stamps. The "fact" that this country has suffered from the most severe recession since the Great Depression, which was in full swing when Obama came into office, is what has caused so many more people to be eligible for food assistance. He has done nothing to keep people on the food stamps program nor has he done anything to even try to expand it. You know that but it is just so easy to spread a lie, especially when it suits your intentions of fomenting hatred against those who do not share your particular beliefs or ideology.

Rickaroo, please dont forget to tell in your spin that unemployment rate is highest under obama even with HIS stimulus. How many years does he have to be president before it becomes his economic downfall? If you research him many sit downs with lefty media he says "i know they are no better off than they was 4 years ago". You said that Obama has done nothing to keep people on the food stamp program....what has he done to help get them off food stamps? He goes on falsifying his job creation numbers...Hostess, Foodlion, Solyndra, and others are out of jobs.

It would be laughable, if it also weren't so pathetic, that the Repubs and all the Obama haters are constantly condemning him for not doing enough to provide jobs and to turn the economy around, yet the Repubs have obstructed him on every plan or he policy he has tried to implement that has been aimed at doing just that.

The Repubs have made it clear from day one that their #1 priority is to make him a one-term president and they are still sticking true to their word. They have been obsessed with this. They know that the worse off the economy, the worse his chances will be of getting re-elected, and every policy decision they make is made with that sole objective in mind - to keep the economy in the toilet, and thus make him look bad. So one can reasonably assume that Obama's policies might actually have been good but they keep constantly voting in lock-step against them because they are afraid that he might look good if they passed and succeeded. The undeniable success he had early on with our auto industry is a sterling example of his sound decision making but you Obama haters try to spin that with your ridiculous claims that it was some sort of a "socialist takeover" or some such rubbish.

Don't talk to me about "spin," until it becomes clear to everyone that these extremist teaparty Republicans we have in office are willing to drop their disgustingly deranged obsession with hating Obama and stop working solely AGAINST him and working instead FOR the good of the counry as a whole.

Auto industry? Do you know that only 8000 of the volts have sold and that it is costing tax payers. The pipeline had 3 years of research done already and HE is the one who turned it down saying there had not been enough research. The good of the country you say.....well sorry but I had rather have my freedom, smaller government, and moral values, than have Oboma. Since you are apparently an Obama supporter, what happen to all the transparency he promised?

Just to add to above comment, Obama wants every american to "pay fair share" report from IRS says 36 of Obama's executive office staff owes $833,970 in back taxes. Heres something else for you, stimulus backed energy company Ener1 (who makes lithium ion battery) and got 118 million files for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Is your liberal media giving you this information?
