A water main break on Georgia Avenue means businesses and residents in the heart of downtown Chattanooga could be without water for several hours.
The 12-inch main broke this afternoon as crews were working on a different section of the line nearby, Tennessee American Water spokeswoman Jessica Presley said.
Water gushed down the blocks surrounding Georgia Avenue after the break, forcing work crews to shut off valves on other sections of the line to locate the leak’s sourse.
Cutting off the valves will leave about 30 customers without water, Presley said. Some other nearby residents and businesses may experience lower water pressure, she added.
At this point, Presley said crews are still working on the line and do not know what they will be able to have water back up and running.
